Volunteer Backend Developer

About the role

Yoris Africa is looking for a passionate Volunteer Backend Developer to join its remote engineering team. You will help build and scale the server‑side components of the Yoris Super App, a platform that connects businesses and consumers across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Build high‑performance systems using Golang (Go) and Python.
• Implement secure, reliable server‑side logic and micro‑services.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user‑facing features.
• Design and expose RESTful APIs.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure issues.
• Optimize database performance and ensure application scalability.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Assist with deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of cloud‑based applications.

Required profile

• Strong experience in backend web development and software engineering.
• Proficiency in Golang (Go) and Python.
• Experience building scalable APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, data structures, algorithms, and OOP.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote team.
