UT Level 2 Technician – Pipe Mill

About the role

The UT Level 2 Technician performs ultrasonic testing inspections on steel pipes within a pipe mill, ensuring products meet international pipeline standards before shipment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, set up, and operate Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) systems integrated into production lines.
• Perform manual UT scans to verify and map indications identified by automated scanners.
• Calibrate UT equipment and transducers daily using reference calibration pipes.
• Inspect weld seams, pipe bodies, and ends for laminations, cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, and wall‑thickness variations.
• Evaluate inspection data against API 5L, ASTM, ASME, ISO 3183 and accept or reject pipes accordingly.
• Prepare and sign off official UT inspection reports and enter data into the MES/ERP system.

Required profile

• Valid UT Level 2 certification (ISO 9712) and VT Level 2 certification.
• Annual vision examination passed (Jaeger 1 and Ishihara).
• 2–3 years experience in a pipe manufacturing or heavy‑steel tube facility.
• Strong knowledge of API Spec 5L, EN10219 and related NDT standards (ISO 10893).

Required skills

• Operation of Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) systems and manual UT equipment.
• Calibration of UT equipment and transducers.
• Interpretation of computerized UT data streams, strip charts and digital imaging.
• Troubleshooting mechanical and electronic issues on scanning systems.
• Familiarity with Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) for pipe‑end inspections.
