State Coordinator - Adamawa

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified Nigeria national to serve as State Coordinator for its I‑Youth 2.0 programme in Adamawa. The role involves leading the implementation of youth‑focused agribusiness activities, managing a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring alignment with project workplans, budgets and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day implementation of I‑Youth 2.0 activities in Adamawa, adhering to approved workplans, budgets and timelines.
• Supervise and manage the state project team, including technical officers and field staff, to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Coordinate state‑level training, enterprise development and incubation for youth agripreneurs, overseeing recruitment, selection and progress tracking.
• Oversee operations of the state‑based Agribusiness Park or incubation hub where applicable.
• Build and maintain relationships with state ministries, traditional authorities, private sector partners and financial institutions.
• Collect, analyse and report monitoring and evaluation data, maintaining a network of I‑Youth alumni.
• Manage the state budget and procurement in compliance with IITA and donor financial policies.
• Prepare narrative and financial reports for the Country Coordinator and represent the project at stakeholder meetings.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, ethics and other IITA policies, escalating risks as needed.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant programme or project implementation experience.
• At least two (2) years in a supervisory or team‑leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience in youth employment, enterprise development, agribusiness or agricultural extension, preferably within priority value chains.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets, work plans and donor‑funded activities.
• Strong experience engaging state government, community structures and private‑sector partners.
