Software Engineer - Storage

About the role

A partner company is looking for an experienced Software Engineer - Storage based in Nigeria to help build and scale a high-performance object storage platform that simplifies how developers upload, manage, process and deliver digital assets. The role spans the full technology stack, from client libraries and command-line tools to storage servers, CDNs and deployment infrastructure, in a globally distributed, open-source-first environment.

Key responsibilities

• Improve analytics storage offerings and support open file formats such as Apache Iceberg and DuckLake.
• Develop asset optimization capabilities that speed up delivery for websites and mobile apps.
• Build and improve the edge network, including automatic cache invalidation.
• Enhance storage server performance, observability, scalability and reliability through monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Build a fast, intuitive storage explorer with frontend engineers.
• Improve APIs, client libraries and CLI tools, and strengthen upload and download reliability.
• Maintain open-source storage server components and resolve escalated support cases.
• Take ownership of engineering initiatives end to end, and contribute to backend development, deployment, monitoring and scaling.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, including running Node.js applications in production.
• Experience designing, building or operating highly scalable distributed systems.
• Strong practical experience with PostgreSQL in production, including tuning and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, asynchronous, globally distributed team.

Required skills

• Node.js in production environments.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Performance tuning and production troubleshooting.
• Nice to have: AWS, GCP or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes; CDN integration and caching; image/video processing tools (Sharp, FFmpeg); React and Next.js.
