About the role
The Senior Registrar in Cardiology will deliver evidence‑based care to patients with cardiovascular conditions while undertaking advanced specialist training under consultant supervision. The role spans inpatient, outpatient, emergency and critical‑care settings and includes teaching, audit and research duties.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and manage patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension and valvular disease across all care settings.
- Perform or assist with approved non‑invasive and invasive cardiac procedures, maintain procedural logs and competency evidence.
- Participate in on‑call rota, respond to acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest and coordinate STEMI referrals.
- Contribute to clinical audit, morbidity‑mortality reviews, quality‑improvement projects and development of protocols.
- Teach and supervise junior doctors, medical officers, interns and students.
Required profile
- Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB) and full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Successful completion of Part I Fellowship/Specialty Examination of NPMCN, WACP or equivalent, with specialty certification in Cardiology.
- Relevant clinical experience in cardiology, including inpatient, outpatient, emergency and critical‑care exposure.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain within stipulated period).
- Commitment to clinical governance, research, audit and continuous professional development.
Required skills
- Interpretation of ECGs, cardiac biomarkers, ambulatory monitoring and echocardiography.
- Proficiency with electronic health records.
- Ability to perform or assist approved cardiology procedures under supervision.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, medication safety and radiation‑safety requirements.
