Senior Plant Operator

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is looking for an experienced Senior Plant Operator to manage and maintain its central air‑conditioning chiller system at the Ibadan headquarters. This fixed‑term role involves rotating day and night shifts and requires a solid background in mechanical plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the central air‑conditioner chiller on a rotational shift schedule.
• Perform daily checks, routine maintenance, and urgent repairs on condensers, chiller pumps, and cooling towers.
• Monitor system parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rates and energy consumption.
• Assist with installation and maintenance of air‑conditioners, cold refrigerators, water coolers and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate daily operation records and logs.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a structured organization.
• Understanding of chiller types (air‑cooled, water‑cooled) and related components.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics and heat‑transfer principles.
