Senior Legal Associate – Fintech & Payments

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is looking for a Senior Legal Associate to join its Legal team. You will ensure that products and operations comply with legal, regulatory and ethical standards while driving efficient legal processes in a fast‑growing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Support corporate governance, litigation, advisory services and legal operations.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries and playbooks to improve consistency.
• Maintain audit‑ready contract repositories and documentation systems.
• Collaborate with fraud, HR, finance, sales, product, engineering and customer support teams.
• Identify and implement process improvements and scalable legal workflows.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience in financial services or fintech is a strong asset.
• Tech‑savvy with strong written and verbal communication.
• Excellent stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Project‑management mindset with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Analytical, action‑oriented, and able to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
• Positive, collaborative attitude and a good sense of humor.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using legal technology tools such as contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems.
• Familiarity with workflow automation tools.
