About the role

The Senior Journalist Team Manager will lead the On‑Demand editorial output for BBC Nigeria Language Services, shaping a future‑focused digital strategy across all BBC platforms. Reporting to the News Editor, the role combines editorial autonomy with the responsibility to serve young, digitally‑savvy audiences across West Africa and the diaspora.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead the On‑Demand Production hub, establishing workflows, standards and operating model from inception.
• Define and deliver a production hub strategy aligned with the cluster’s digital ambitions.
• Advise the News Editor and Assistant Editors on digital strategy and audience growth.
• Improve video turnaround times and embed video‑first thinking into editorial planning.
• Lead production of impactful video journalism, including investigations, documentaries, data‑driven and social‑first formats.
• Manage live‑streaming for the Nigeria Language Services hub on the website and social platforms.
• Develop innovative video formats targeting young women in sub‑Saharan Africa and the diaspora.

Required profile

• Experienced senior journalist with strong editorial judgement and courage.
• Proven track record of commissioning and delivering high‑quality digital video journalism.
• Clear digital ambition and ability to sustain momentum and grow audience reach.
• Ability to uphold BBC Editorial Guidelines and defend impartial decisions under pressure.
