Senior Engineer, Core Support

About the role

Flutterwave is looking for a Senior Core Support Engineer to ensure the reliability, performance, and uptime of its cross‑border payment platforms and to drive operational decisions that keep transaction processing stable across markets and rails. This senior, largely autonomous position involves diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, leading high‑severity incident resolution, and analyzing transaction and provider performance to inform routing and reconciliation decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve complex transaction processing issues, middleware anomalies, and integration faults across distributed microservices.
• Build script‑based automations to eliminate repetitive manual support tasks.
• Use cloud‑native logging and APM tools to monitor system health and detect anomalies before they become outages.
• Lead resolution of high‑severity technical incidents, coordinate cross‑functional input, and drive post‑issue reviews.
• Author technical documentation, runbooks, and integration guides, and close documentation gaps.
• Analyze transaction success rates and failure patterns across payment rails and providers.
• Contribute performance data to provider scoring and routing‑weight decisions.
• Maintain operational decision frameworks such as transaction decision matrices and escalation criteria.
• Perform routine health checks and performance monitoring on core production payment systems.
• Track, prioritize, and manage technical support tickets in platforms like Jira and Happyfox within SLAs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Application Support, DevOps, Site Reliability, or Payment/Technical Operations, preferably in fintech or high‑volume transactional platforms.
• Proven ownership of a domain or workstream and experience mentoring or leading within a support or operations team.
• ITIL Practitioner/Intermediate certification or equivalent AWS/GCP certification (preferred).
