Security, Peace & Development Intern

About the role

The Security, Peace and Development (SPD) Intern assists the SPD team with research, policy analysis and data interpretation. Reporting to Analysts and Senior Analysts, the intern helps create the SPD Daily and other analytical outputs by monitoring emerging trends, synthesizing evidence and producing clear insights on security, peacebuilding, governance and development challenges across Nigeria and the wider region. The work supports evidence-based analysis that informs the strategic decisions of Nextier's clients, partners and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Track daily news, reports and open-source intelligence on security, conflict, governance and development, and write summaries and first drafts for the SPD Daily.
• Carry out desk research, literature reviews and background analysis on peace, security, governance and development themes.
• Evaluate public policies, legislation, budgetary allocations and government initiatives, summarizing their likely impact on security and development outcomes.
• Gather, clean, organize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data such as conflict incident records, under Analyst supervision.
• Manage and update SPD tracking systems and databases, and build basic charts, tables and dashboards.
• Write content for policy briefs, reports, articles and short commentaries, including contributions to the Nextier Policy Weekly.
• Fact-check, proofread and verify sources to ensure accuracy of all SPD publications.
• Help develop presentations, infographics and other knowledge-sharing materials.
