Provost – Chief Academic Officer

About the role

The Merit College of Nursing Sciences is seeking a visionary Provost to serve as the chief academic and administrative officer. This senior leader will guide the college’s teaching, clinical training, research, and compliance initiatives, ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall academic and administrative leadership in line with the college’s vision and ICARE core values.
• Develop and implement the strategic plan, academic policies, and annual operational goals.
• Oversee design, delivery, review, and accreditation of all academic and clinical programmes.
• Ensure full compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other regulatory bodies.
• Lead, supervise, and motivate academic and non‑academic staff, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Manage student admissions, welfare, discipline, academic progress, and overall experience.
• Chair the Academic Board, prepare reports, and advise the Governing Council.
• Administer budgets, resources, and infrastructure prudently.
• Promote research, scholarship, innovation, and community‑service initiatives.
• Build partnerships with clinical sites, healthcare institutions, and regulators.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Public Health, Health Administration or related field (PhD preferred).
• Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Registered Midwife (RM) with a current NMCN licence.
• 6–10 years of progressive experience in nursing or health education leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to lead academic institutions and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
