Project Manager – Higher Education

About the role

British Council is seeking a Project Manager to lead its Higher Education portfolio across Nigeria. The role will oversee student mobility, alumni engagement, tertiary partnerships and client‑funded initiatives, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to high quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of higher education programmes, managing stakeholder relationships with universities, partners and suppliers.
• Oversee procurement, contract management and supplier performance to meet agreed outcomes.
• Support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and monitor expenditure against plans.
• Ensure compliance with British Council policies, reporting obligations and grant requirements.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, coordinate data collection, quality assurance and performance reporting.
• Collaborate with internal finance and programme teams to resolve variances and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing education‑related projects or programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management and partnership building skills.
• Solid understanding of financial and commercial management in a project context.
• Ability to work across internal and external networks to achieve programme objectives.

Required skills

• Project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMBOK).
• Financial planning and budgeting.
• Procurement and contract management.
• Data analysis and reporting.
