Principal – SME Finance & Development

About the role

The Principal – SME Finance & Development will join the SME Finance & Development division of an international financial institution. As a senior project team member, you will lead the structuring, execution and monitoring of complex financing transactions for small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) across multiple countries.

Key responsibilities

• Work with senior operation leaders on complex SME financing deals, contributing to project structuring, due‑diligence, negotiation and signing.
• Lead the development and execution of less complex debt and equity transactions, ensuring alignment with the bank’s operational objectives.
• Supervise junior colleagues, overseeing deal flow processing and portfolio monitoring activities.
• Provide portfolio monitoring, value‑creation advice and reporting to senior management.
• Contribute to policy dialogue with internal units and country teams, supporting grant and technical cooperation fund procurement.
• Assist business development and marketing efforts in collaboration with sector and advisory teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in SME finance, project structuring and portfolio monitoring.
• Proven ability to lead and supervise junior staff in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
• Strong understanding of risk‑sharing mechanisms, supply‑chain finance and advisory programmes for SMEs.
• Excellent communication skills for policy dialogue and stakeholder engagement.
