PR & Communications Specialist (Contract)

About the role

Duplo builds the financial operating system for African commerce, helping businesses manage payments, automate finance operations and streamline treasury visibility. It is looking for a highly creative, commercially minded Corporate Communications and PR Specialist on a contract basis to shape Duplo's public narrative, strengthen its reputation and position it as a leading voice in African fintech and business finance. The role goes beyond press releases: it involves building journalist relationships, securing media coverage and turning complex business and technology developments into compelling stories.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run proactive PR initiatives and build relationships with journalists and media organisations across business, technology, fintech, finance and trade publications
• Secure interviews, features, contributed articles and expert commentary, and lead PR for major announcements such as product launches, partnerships, funding milestones and market expansions
• Write press releases, media pitches, briefing materials and corporate announcements, and manage media enquiries and interviews
• Help refine the corporate narrative and messaging framework, and turn product developments and customer outcomes into stories for different audiences
• Create corporate content such as company profiles, customer success stories, opinion pieces and executive articles
• Support industry events, webinars and conferences, coordinate speaker submissions and media briefings, and turn events into media stories and thought leadership content
• Develop thought leadership initiatives for founders and executives, including interviews, speaking engagements, podcasts and LinkedIn articles
• Maintain a communications calendar, track earned media and prepare monthly performance reports

Required profile

• 6-7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications distribution or a related role
• Experience coordinating media outreach, press distribution, communications projects or business events
• Ability to build professional relationships with journalists, media outlets, partners, speakers, vendors and internal stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
