OHS Officer – Power and Gas (Nigeria)

About the role

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Officer will lead health, safety and environmental compliance for power and gas operations at the Lekki Free Zone site in Nigeria. The role focuses on implementing safety management systems, conducting inspections, managing incidents, and delivering training to create a world‑class safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits, identify hazards and maintain safety documentation.
• Develop, implement and enforce safety procedures and ensure safe work practices across operations.
• Deliver safety inductions, training programs, toolbox talks and emergency drills for employees and contractors.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses, determine root causes and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and other relevant regulations; monitor legislative changes and manage permit‑to‑work systems.
• Maintain adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), enforce its use and inspect safety equipment.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly EHS reports, communicate updates and participate in safety committee meetings.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in occupational health, safety and environmental management, preferably in the power or gas sector.
• Knowledge of local and international safety regulations such as OSHA and EPA.
• Ability to conduct inspections, deliver training and lead incident investigations.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with operations teams and contractors.
