Nutrition Volunteer

About the role

Reaching the Last Child Initiative (RLCI), a non-governmental organization based in Kano State, Nigeria, is recruiting a full-time, on-site Nutrition Volunteer. The role supports nutrition-related activities for children aged 0-18, with a focus on marginalized and hard-to-reach populations, within RLCI's integrated programming in Education, Health & Nutrition, Child Protection and Child Poverty.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in assessing the nutritional status of children
• Help implement nutrition interventions and contribute to monitoring and follow-up of beneficiaries
• Support nutrition education sessions for caregivers and community members
• Prepare learning materials and take part in outreach programmes with health and education teams
• Collect basic nutrition data with programme staff, keep accurate records and ensure services are delivered in a child-safe and culturally appropriate way

Required profile

• Foundational knowledge in dietetics and nutrition, able to support child-focused nutrition programmes
• Interest or experience in community outreach, child health or humanitarian work, preferably in low-resource settings
• Ability to work in diverse teams, show cultural sensitivity and uphold child safeguarding and ethical standards
• Strong organisational skills, reliability and willingness to learn under supervision; prior volunteering or field experience is an advantage
• Relevant academic background in Nutrition, Public Health or a related field (completed or in progress) is beneficial

Required skills

• Nutrition education and effective communication with children, caregivers and community members
• Basic understanding of food and beverage principles, including safe food handling and meal planning for children
