Nurse Anesthetist

About the role

The Nurse Anesthetist will assess, prepare, and monitor patients before, during, and after anesthesia, ensuring safety and comfort while working under the supervision of a physician anesthesiologist at International Medical Corps in Abuja.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑anesthesia assessment, obtain informed consent, and develop an individualized anesthesia plan.
• Administer general, regional, or local anesthesia using intravenous, inhalational, spinal, or nerve‑block techniques.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, level of consciousness, and pain, adjusting anesthesia as needed.
• Identify and manage anesthesia‑related complications such as hypotension, hypoxia, bleeding, or allergic reactions.
• Provide post‑anesthesia care, ensuring smooth transition to the ward or ICU.
• Document all anesthesia activities, outcomes, and incidents accurately.
• Maintain anesthesia equipment, supplies, and drugs, ensuring proper storage, usage, and disposal.
• Follow infection prevention, standard precautions, and waste‑management protocols.
• Perform sterilization duties, including cleaning equipment, managing inventory, and preparing sterile trays.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives for anesthesia services.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 36 months (3 years) experience in anesthesia nursing.
• Ability to work under supervision of a physician anesthesiologist.
• Capability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
