Mining Engineer – Quarry Operations

About the role

The Mining Engineer will ensure safe, efficient and compliant operation of the quarry, delivering required raw material quality and quantity to the crushers. The role also manages explosives and diesel stocks and coordinates multiple support teams to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor an effective safety action plan, including training, audits, weekly briefings and inspections in line with the Quarry Safety Handbook.
• Coordinate drilling and blasting designs, optimise equipment utilisation and ensure compliance with geo‑technical wall control requirements.
• Improve production rates for excavators, dump trucks and drilling patterns to increase fragmentation and overall efficiency.
• Supervise daily pre‑start checks, safety documentation and inspection of blasted patterns to meet fragmentation targets.
• Define daily mining strategy (grade control, drill‑and‑blast, load‑and‑haul) and forecast crusher feed blending to meet budget targets.
• Monitor overburden movement, bench setup, haul road conditions and mechanical issues, collaborating with the maintenance manager.
• Conduct QA/QC on blasted patterns, identify production problems and work with mine planners to adjust blast parameters.
• Assist in developing drill‑and‑blast budgets, cost studies and forecasts.

Required profile

• 4–5 years of experience in open‑pit mining or quarrying, with hands‑on drilling and blasting expertise.
• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Mining Engineering or a related field.
