MEP (MECH) Design Engineer

About the role

The MEP (MECH) Design Engineer will join Alaro City’s multidisciplinary team to lead the full design lifecycle of mechanical and plumbing systems for residential, commercial and institutional projects. This hands‑on role involves concept design, detailed calculations, drafting, Revit modelling and preparation of construction‑ready documents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design calculations including HVAC heating/cooling loads, psychrometric analysis, duct and pipe sizing, pump head and ventilation rates.
• Design and draft HVAC layouts (chilled water, VRF/VRV, split and packaged systems), ductwork routes, plant room arrangements and equipment schedules.
• Develop fire protection systems – wet and dry sprinkler networks, hydrants, gaseous suppression and fire alarm coordination in accordance with NFPA 13, 14, 20 and 72.
• Design domestic cold and hot water plumbing systems, size booster pumps and define hot‑water generation strategies.
• Create and maintain Revit MEP models, construction drawings, schematics, single‑line diagrams and Bills of Quantities.
• Coordinate designs with architects and structural engineers, review compliance with ASHRAE, SMACNA, CIBSE and the Nigerian Building Code, and conduct site visits to verify installation.

Required profile

• Hands‑on design professional capable of managing the complete MEP design process from concept to construction documents.
• Proficiency in drafting, Revit modelling and preparation of technical specifications and BOQs.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and perform on‑site verification of design intent.

Required skills

• HVAC load calculation, psychrometric analysis, duct and pipe sizing.
• Revit MEP modeling and detailed drafting.
• Fire protection design per NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, CIBSE and Nigerian Building Code standards.
• Plumbing system design, booster pump sizing, hot‑water generation.
• Equipment selection, scheduling and preparation of Bills of Quantities.
