About the role
The Medical Laboratory Technician – Stem Cell supports processing, preservation, testing, storage and documentation of stem cell and cellular therapy products while ensuring compliance with quality, biosafety and regulatory standards for safe patient care.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in collection, receipt, processing, isolation, cryopreservation, storage, thawing and distribution of stem cell and cellular therapy products.
- Prepare reagents, media, buffers and consumables required for routine stem cell processing and testing.
- Support cell culture procedures, including maintenance, expansion, viability assessment and sample preparation under supervision.
- Perform routine quality control checks on equipment, reagents and monitor storage temperatures and environmental conditions.
- Operate, clean, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and manage inventory of reagents and consumables.
- Collaborate with scientists, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to support stem cell transplantation services.
Required profile
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
- Current registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria or equivalent regulatory body.
- At least two years of experience in stem cell processing, cellular therapy, haematology, transplant or clinical laboratory.
- Knowledge of biosafety, GMP/GLP standards and laboratory quality systems.
Required skills
- Stem cell processing and cryopreservation techniques.
- Cell counting and viability assessment.
- Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
