Medical Laboratory Scientist

About the role

Cellulose Medical Laboratory in Abuja is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to lead its laboratory services. The role covers quality control and assurance, specimen handling and reporting, equipment maintenance, staff leadership and performance appraisal.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and strengthen the laboratory's quality control and quality assurance programme
• Handle, log and process all laboratory specimens, ensuring fast turnaround and storage of processed specimens for future verification
• Capture every sample in the sample logbook, record results in the reporting template and make comments by the resident doctor; verify and approve all outgoing results
• Restock supplies and commodities and maintain laboratory logs, issue logs, maintenance logs, expiry logs and stock cards
• Maintain and recalibrate equipment and instruments on a monthly or periodic basis
• Appraise the performance of other staff in the laboratory services department and provide leadership to them
• Deliver professional service, keep the lab healthy and safe, and represent the laboratory at external forums
• Carry out any other assignments directed by the Medical Director

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science
• At least 2 to 5 years of post-NYSC experience
• A valid practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council
• Master's degree is an added advantage

Required skills

• Exceptionally computer literate
• Good soft skills: teamwork, leadership, initiative, adaptability, decisiveness, interpersonal skills and written/oral communication
• Ability to work with little or no supervision
