MEAL Officer – Monitoring & Evaluation for Education Project

About the role

The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer will lead the establishment and management of a robust MEAL system for Save the Children’s two‑year Education in Emergencies and Child Protection project in Katsina State, Nigeria. Working closely with national partners, the officer will ensure data‑driven decision‑making, quality assurance and accountability to children and donors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the project’s MEAL framework in line with Save the Children International standards and donor requirements.
• Lead baseline, midline and end‑line evaluations and coordinate ASER and TaRL assessments for learners.
• Conduct routine data verification, data quality assurance and validation activities with implementing partners.
• Monitor project progress and quality, produce regular monitoring reports and contribute to learning reviews.
• Document lessons learned and best practices and support knowledge sharing across the programme.
• Establish and support a functional accountability system, including child help desks and feedback mechanisms.
• Collaborate with partners, field staff and senior management to ensure timely and accurate data collection.

Required profile

• University degree in Social Sciences, Education, Statistics, International Development or a related field.
• Proven experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning within humanitarian or education programmes.
• Familiarity with assessment tools such as ASER and Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL).
• Understanding of child protection and education in emergencies contexts.
• Ability to work in field settings, travel to project sites and liaise with local NGOs.
