Legal Practitioner

About the role

HOPE360 Aid, a non-profit focused on humanitarian relief and sustainable development, is seeking a qualified Legal Practitioner for its Legal Affairs, Compliance and Protection department in Maiduguri, Borno State. The role advises the Executive Director and management on complex legal matters, contract governance, risk mitigation and ethical compliance, and protects the rights of vulnerable communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to leadership and departments on policies and operational challenges, and interpret Nigerian statutes and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Act as authorized representative in legal proceedings, administrative hearings and external negotiations when qualified, and collaborate with outside legal experts and regulators.
• Draft and review contracts, partnership agreements, MoUs and SLAs, and evaluate donor, partner and vendor agreements.
• Maintain a secure legal records system, monitor non-profit regulatory requirements and advise on statutory filings.
• Assist the Board of Trustees on governance, including conflict of interest and accountability frameworks, and review internal procedures for legal gaps.
• Facilitate internal investigations and disciplinary actions, and guide management on due process.
• Advise on protection issues such as gender-based violence, child safety and disability inclusion, and develop referral mechanisms for survivors.
• Integrate legal perspectives into sexual exploitation and abuse prevention, whistleblowing and staff conduct policies, and educate staff, volunteers and partners.
• Manage disputes and employment, contract and property conflicts, maintain a legal risk register and lead compliance and human rights training.
• Produce periodic reports on legal status, compliance actions and regulatory changes.
