Legal Officer – Oil & Gas

About the role

Virgin Forest Energy Limited is seeking a qualified Legal Officer to join its legal team in Victoria Island, Lagos. The role focuses on delivering robust legal support, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing corporate governance within Nigeria’s dynamic oil and gas sector.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support to business units on contracts, transactions, and regulatory matters.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with local, national, and international laws affecting the oil and gas industry.
• Manage corporate governance activities, including board documentation and company secretarial duties.
• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Stay updated on legislative changes and advise senior management on potential impacts.

Required profile

• Barrister at Law (BL) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized university with at least a second‑class grade.
• Minimum of 2 years post‑call legal experience in a reputable, structured business environment.
• Membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) or an equivalent professional body is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the oil & gas industry.
• In‑depth understanding of local, national and international laws and regulations.
• Excellent company secretarial practice.
• Proficiency in corporate governance and board management.
