Legal & Compliance Officer (Entry-Level)

About the role

A mining and quarrying company in Kano is looking for a meticulous, principled entry-level Legal & Compliance Officer (Associate) to strengthen its legal, risk management and compliance operations. The role suits a recent graduate or early-career professional with up to two years of experience who wants to uphold legal standards, ethical conduct and strong corporate governance, working closely with leadership and operational units.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce adherence to internal policies and all applicable legal and regulatory mandates.
• Draft and review legal instruments such as contracts and non-disclosure agreements, and examine operational paperwork against compliance protocols and checklists.
• Carry out regular compliance audits, legal research and risk assessments across departments.
• Maintain the compliance register, risk logs, contract databases and related legal files.
• Help prepare compliance reports, legal analyses and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Deliver training on compliance procedures and regulations, and track audit findings, legal matters and corrective actions.
• Take part in due diligence for external partners, vendors, clients and consultants, and keep confidential legal and compliance documents secure.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or B.L. degree; a Barrister at Law qualification, LL.M or ICSAN certification is highly beneficial.
• Knowledge of ethical principles, integrity and corporate governance frameworks.
• Attention to detail, analytical ability and legal research proficiency.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with a commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.
• Quick learner who thrives in a collaborative team environment.
