Laboratory Supervisor - Chemist

About the role

Nestlé Nigeria is looking for a Laboratory Supervisor - Chemist to join the Quality Assurance team at its Abaji Factory. The role coordinates the Chemistry Laboratory and product compliance activities, gives technical chemistry support to factory operations, drives Good Laboratory Practice and laboratory safety, and helps ensure reliable product release and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate routine chemical analysis of finished products, in-line controls, raw materials and packaging materials, and provide troubleshooting support to Production and Application teams.
• Manage product compliance activities, including Nestlé Confidence Assessment and Tracking (CAT), and the chemical contaminant monitoring programme.
• Drive GLP, audit readiness and laboratory safety; act as the factory HAZMAT lead for spill preparedness and drills.
• Support HACCP review, FSSC 22000 and internal audits, ISO/NMS requirements, P-Test verification and laboratory safety audits.
• Act as a SAP/GLOBE Quality super user, train laboratory personnel and use SPC, DMAIC, Fishbone and root-cause analysis for continuous improvement.
• Partner with Production, Quality, Application Group, R&D and other functions, and interface with third-party labs, suppliers, contractors and regulators.

Required profile

• BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Food Engineering, Biochemistry, Food Science/Technology or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on analytical chemistry capability in a manufacturing or regulated laboratory environment.
• Experience in food & beverage, pharmaceutical or other manufacturing sectors.
• Advantageous: experience training/coaching others and coordinating indirect or temporary support staff.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of GLP, product compliance, laboratory management and verification/audit requirements.
• SPC, DMAIC, Fishbone and root-cause analysis.
• Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; SAP experience strongly relevant.
• Advantageous: HACCP, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001:2015, HAZMAT/chemical safety and regulated product-quality systems.
