Junior Accounting Officer

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Junior Accounting Officer to join the finance team of a leading freight forwarding company in Lagos. The role involves day‑to‑day accounting activities, financial record keeping and support for statutory and management reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and post transactions to the general ledger.
• Prepare and review payment vouchers, invoices and receipts.
• Perform bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Support accounts payable and receivable, including vendor and customer reconciliations.
• Track logistics‑related costs such as freight charges, fuel expenses and clearing costs.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
• Ensure proper filing and documentation of financial records.
• Assist with statutory compliance, including VAT, WHT and other tax filings.
• Support audit processes by preparing schedules and responding to queries.
• Liaise with operations and admin teams to capture accurate costs and control expenses.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 3–4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a fast‑paced environment.
• Good knowledge of Nigerian accounting practices and tax requirements (VAT, WHT).
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive problem‑solving attitude.
