IP Edge Planning Engineer

About the role

The Engineer – IP Edge Planning will develop and optimise the internet edge, datacenter and CGNAT firewall architecture for MTN Nigeria. The role involves designing network nodes, capacity planning and supporting the rollout of new services across the national IP/MPLS backbone.

Key responsibilities

• Design and integrate IP/MPLS nodes, sites and links to support business growth and new service introductions.
• Produce weekly network trends, capacity utilisation reports and expansion forecasts.
• Plan, deploy and manage CGNAT firewalls to meet mobile internet demand.
• Develop and evolve IP addressing, naming and numbering schemes for the backbone.
• Coordinate with transmission specialists for DWDM backbone capacity planning.
• Conduct site surveys and visits to validate network design and dimensioning.
• Implement QoS and class‑of‑service techniques in the MPLS core and at the edge.
• Support Network Operations with second‑level problem analysis and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• 4–5 years of experience in IT & telecoms, preferably on a large service‑provider network.
• Professional‑level networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNP/DP, CCIP).
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Cisco CCNP/DP and CCIP qualifications.
• Strong knowledge of IP/MPLS, QoS, OSPF, ISIS, BGP and Segment Routing.
• Experience with high‑capacity transmission technologies such as SDH and DWDM.
• Hands‑on expertise with CGNAT firewalls and IPv6 deployment.
• Understanding of voice networking standards (ETSI/ANSI, VOIP, C7/SS7).
