Internal Control & Compliance Manager

About the role

The Internal Control & Compliance Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for ensuring that the microfinance bank operates within all regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and industry best practices. The role involves designing, implementing, and monitoring internal control systems to mitigate operational, financial, and compliance risks.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) micro‑finance guidelines, AML regulations, and NDIC requirements.
• Monitor regulatory changes, update policies, and submit accurate regulatory returns on time.
• Develop and review internal control frameworks across lending, treasury, deposits, IT, and branch operations.
• Identify control weaknesses, conduct risk assessments, and enforce segregation of duties.
• Plan and execute internal audits, conduct surprise cash counts, and investigate whistleblower complaints.
• Implement and monitor the AML/CFT program, including KYC, CDD, EDD, and maintain PEP and sanctions registers.
• Train staff on AML regulations, fraud awareness, and compliance procedures.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in banking compliance and internal controls.
• Proven ability to act as primary liaison with regulatory bodies such as CBN and NDIC.
• Strong analytical skills for risk assessment and audit reporting.
• Excellent knowledge of AML/CFT regulations and KYC processes.
