Instrument Engineer

About the role

The Instrument Engineer will be the technical authority for all instrumentation, control, metering and safeguarding systems on the IMA Project. You will ensure compliance with TotalEnergies standards, regulatory requirements and international codes while minimizing technical risk.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the focal point for instrumentation, control, metering and safeguarding systems for the project.
• Review, comment on and approve EPC contractors’ instrumentation deliverables.
• Validate P&IDs, instrument indexes, datasheets, control philosophies, cause‑and‑effect matrices, hook‑up diagrams, cable and junction‑box schedules, and loop diagrams.
• Ensure adequate pressure, temperature, flow, ESD, sand detection, fire‑and‑gas detection and remote monitoring instrumentation for well‑head platforms and brownfield equipment.
• Review and verify PLC, SCADA, RTU and HMI configurations, and safety‑instrumented systems (IEC 61508/61511).
• Support commissioning activities, including calibration, loop checking and functional testing.
• Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments, alarm management and constructability reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of instrumentation experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Strong project‑management mindset.

Required skills

• Instrumentation engineering and control systems.
• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and verification.
• IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ATEX, API and ISO standards.
• P&ID review, instrument datasheets, control philosophy development, cause‑and‑effect matrix creation.
• PLC programming, SCADA, RTU and HMI configuration.
• Fire‑and‑gas system design, pipeline monitoring, leak detection and pigging operations.
• Commissioning procedures and functional testing.
• HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessment and alarm management.
