Import and Logistics Lead
VerdaPrim · Ibadan
Job description
About the role
VerdaPrim is setting up the African commercial operations of an industrial materials supply partnership, supplying African manufacturers with dependable materials and responsive commercial support. It is recruiting an Import and Logistics Lead to own every container from the moment a customer order is confirmed until the goods reach the warehouse or the customer's site. The role is hands-on at the start of a new business line, reporting to the Director, Nigeria, and based in Ibadan with regular travel as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Import documentation and compliance: assemble shipping documents for Form M, track PAAR issuance, check supplier documents (commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, SONCAP where required) and classify goods under the correct HS codes with applicable duty, CISS, ETLS and VAT rates.
- Clearing and port operations: brief and manage the licensed clearing agent, obtain customs, shipping line and terminal assessments, secure call-up slots and trucks, and keep demurrage, storage and waiting charges at zero.
- Transport, warehouse receipt and customer delivery: dispatch trucks from the port to the Lagos warehouse, plan customer deliveries and obtain signed delivery notes, and maintain a live shipment and delivery tracker with weekly reports.
Required profile
- At least five years clearing and moving containerised cargo through Lagos ports, ideally bulk industrial materials.
- End-to-end working knowledge of the Nigeria Customs Service process (Form M, PAAR, Single Goods Declaration, HS classification, duty and levy computation, CBN documentation rules).
- Experience managing a licensed clearing agent and shipping lines on behalf of an importer, with a record of keeping demurrage and storage charges low.
- Desirable: experience with Apapa and Tin Can Island call-up systems, trucking from both ports and delivery to factory sites in Lagos and Ogun; exposure to marine insurance claims and shortage or damage recovery; a professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport or a related body.
Required skills
- Strong spreadsheet skills and the discipline to keep a shipment tracker current every day.
- Planning ahead, documenting work so others can follow it, and being straightforward when things go wrong.
What we offer
- Competitive monthly pay, reviewed after probation.
- Transport and communication allowance for port and warehouse work.
- Annual performance bonus based on company performance.
- The chance to build and lead the logistics function of a new business line as it grows.
To apply, submit your CV and a short covering note through the company's application channel, describing one shipment you cleared where something went wrong and what you did about it. Shortlisted candidates meet the Director, Nigeria and complete a practical exercise on a sample shipment file.
