Head of Internal Control (Microfinance Bank)

About the role
The Head of Internal Control will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of internal control frameworks for a microfinance bank, ensuring alignment with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines and regulatory requirements. This senior position reports to senior management and works closely with audit and risk teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and enforce internal control policies and procedures across all banking functions.
- Identify, assess and manage operational, credit, financial and compliance risks.
- Ensure segregation of duties, especially in cash handling, loan processing and reconciliations.
- Monitor compliance with CBN regulations, internal manuals and regulatory limits.
- Prepare and submit internal control reports for regulators and senior management.
- Conduct regular control reviews at branches and head office, including loan documentation and recovery processes.
- Investigate fraud, control breaches and irregularities, recommending corrective actions.
- Follow up on audit findings to ensure timely resolution.
- Review daily transactions, cash management, expense controls and authorisation limits.
- Prepare periodic risk and compliance reports for the Board.
- Supervise and mentor internal control officers and branch staff, fostering a strong risk culture.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, banking, business administration or related field.
- Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACCA, CPA, CIA or CISA preferred.
- 5–10 years of experience in internal control, audit or risk management, preferably in a micro‑finance or deposit‑money bank.
- Strong knowledge of CBN micro‑finance bank regulations and banking operations.

- Net salary ranging from 600,000 NGN to 1.2 million NGN (gross 700,000 NGN – 1.5 million NGN).
