Head of Insurance

About the role

The Head of Insurance will lead Dangote Industries' insurance strategy, ensuring comprehensive protection of assets, operations and liabilities across the Group. Reporting to senior leadership, this role partners with risk, finance, legal and operational teams to embed insurance solutions that support business continuity and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Group’s insurance strategy, policies and risk‑transfer programmes.
• Manage insurance coverage for manufacturing plants, logistics, energy, infrastructure and corporate assets.
• Oversee policy administration, claims handling, renewals and relationships with insurers and brokers.
• Evaluate operational and strategic risks to secure cost‑effective insurance protection.
• Lead negotiations with insurers, brokers and reinsurers to obtain optimal terms and pricing.
• Monitor claims trends, loss ratios and insurance performance, driving continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate‑governance and internal policy requirements.
• Provide insurance advisory support for major projects, contracts, investments and expansion activities.
• Prepare insurance and risk reports for executive management and the Board.
• Support business‑continuity, crisis response and operational‑resilience initiatives.
• Lead, develop and mentor the insurance team, fostering stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, actuarial science or a related field.
• Post‑graduate qualification in insurance; MBA or Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Professional certifications such as ACII, FCII, AIIN, CPCU or IISA preferred.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
• Experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, logistics, infrastructure, energy or large conglomerates.
