Head Nurse, General Medical & Surgical Services

About the role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) is seeking a Head Nurse to lead its General Medical & Surgical Services. This senior nursing role oversees the delivery of high‑quality, safe patient care across Accident & Emergency, internal medicine and general wards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and monitor nursing strategies and policies for general medical and surgical services.
• Ensure optimal nursing operations in A&E, internal medicine and general wards.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Maintain clinical standards, patient safety and quality assurance across all services.
• Lead, mentor and evaluate nursing staff, fostering professional development.
• Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to modernise clinical practice.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a recognised nursing qualification.
• Extensive experience in general medical and surgical nursing, including A&E and inpatient care.
• Proven leadership or managerial experience in a hospital setting.
• Strong understanding of nursing policies, patient safety and quality standards.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and diagnosis.
• Emergency and acute care management.
• Inpatient care coordination.
• Use of hospital information and electronic medical record systems.
