HE Programme Manager

About the role

The HE Programme Manager will lead the strategy, planning and delivery of the British Council’s tertiary education portfolio in Nigeria. This includes student mobility, internationalisation, science partnerships and non‑formal education programmes, as well as client‑funded projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the country’s Education/Tertiary Education strategy aligned with global priorities.
• Oversee programme design, implementation, quality assurance, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and risk management.
• Support business development and income generation to meet country and global income targets.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with government, UK diplomatic missions, partners, researchers and technical experts.
• Build and share market knowledge and insights about the local education context.
• Embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) principles across all activities.
• Manage budgets and resources efficiently while ensuring compliance with British Council standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading education or tertiary‑education programmes at a national level.
• Strong stakeholder‑management and partnership‑building skills.
• Demonstrated ability to support business development and achieve income targets.
• Experience in budgeting, resource allocation and risk management.
• Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in programme delivery.
