General Ledger Manager

About the role

The General Ledger Manager will oversee the company’s financial records, manage daily transactions, and lead month‑end and year‑end close processes. The role ensures accurate, IFRS‑compliant financial statements are delivered on time while driving process improvements across the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Month‑end close: lead full‑cycle closing, post accruals, deferrals and standard journal entries.
• Reconciliations: perform and review balance‑sheet and income‑statement account reconciliations.
• Financial statements: prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual P&L, cash‑flow and balance‑sheet reports.
• GL management: maintain the general ledger system, chart of accounts and ensure proper coding of all transactions.
• Compliance & audit: develop internal controls, act as primary contact for external and internal auditors, and manage statutory tax filings.
• Asset accounting: oversee fixed‑asset capitalization, disposals and asset registers.
• Team leadership: manage, mentor and develop the GL team, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Cross‑functional collaboration: work with AP, AR and sales teams to ensure correct expense classification and periodic debtor review.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; member of ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria).
• 5‑8 years progressive experience in general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
• At least 3 years supervisory or managerial experience leading an accounting team.
• Experience in retail, FMCG or manufacturing sectors is highly advantageous.
• Strong analytical, communication and detail‑orientation skills.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with modern ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle or SAP.
• Advanced Excel proficiency, including V‑Lookups, Pivot Tables and data analysis.
• Deep knowledge of IFRS and relevant tax regulations.
