Gateman and Messenger (Live‑in)

About the role

This live‑in position combines gatekeeping, messenger duties and basic facility maintenance for a hospital in Enugu North. The successful candidate will ensure a secure and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff while supporting daily logistical and technical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Control access by monitoring and recording entry and exit of patients, visitors and staff.
• Deliver medical records, laboratory samples and documents between departments or to external partners.
• Assist patients, especially expectant mothers and the elderly, with directions and entry into the facility.
• Conduct regular perimeter patrols and report safety hazards or suspicious activities.
• Receive, sort and distribute hospital supplies and mail.
• Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing, electrical systems and structural fittings.
• Assist with basic upkeep of generators, water pumps and air‑conditioning units.
• Carry out daily walkthroughs to identify and resolve minor issues.
• Ensure all repairs meet safety and hygiene standards for a medical environment.
• Support supervision of external contractors for major technical projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience in general maintenance, security or related fields.
• Professional, punctual, clean and respectful attitude toward patients and medical staff.
• Christian faith alignment with the hospital’s mission (evidence of a “born‑again” Christian life).
• Clear spoken and written English; Igbo language proficiency is a plus.
• Honest, vigilant, physically fit and willing to be on‑call for emergency repairs.

Required skills

• Basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Ability to perform routine plumbing repairs (leaks, blockages).
• Familiarity with generator, water pump and air‑conditioning upkeep.
