Fire/Safety Assistant

About the role

The Fire/Safety Assistant will ensure fire safety across the GDNL Terminal ‘E’ at Apapa Port. The role combines fire‑prevention patrols, equipment maintenance, emergency response and environmental cleanliness to protect personnel, assets and the surrounding community.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety patrols, perform gas tests and enforce fire‑prevention measures.
• Inspect, maintain and report on firefighting equipment and fire engines.
• Respond to fire incidents, activate evacuation plans and support emergency drills.
• Oversee quay apron washing, dust suppression and hopper cleaning to reduce fire‑hazard conditions.
• Lead weekly toolbox talks, fire‑drill participation and fire‑safety awareness sessions for staff.
• Document and escalate accidents, near‑misses and identified hazards.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by management.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 30 years at the time of application.
• West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE/SSCE/NECO/NABTEB).
• Basic fire‑safety knowledge and understanding of firefighting equipment.
• Willingness to obtain or already hold basic firefighting, fire‑warden or first‑aid certification.
• Physical fitness, alertness and ability to work under pressure.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.
