Financial Controller – Senior Finance Leader

About the role

The Financial Controller will join the senior finance team of a leading bank in Nigeria, providing leadership over the control function and financial accounting. The role ensures that all financial reports meet local and international accounting standards and that the bank complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an effective system of internal financial controls in line with Group policies.
• Deliver high‑quality financial and fiduciary reporting, including subsidiary reporting, on time.
• Apply Group accounting policies, standards and procedures across all country activities.
• Support balance‑sheet, liquidity and interest‑rate risk management through the ALCO process.
• Manage financial control risk using the Group Financial Control Policy and Risk Management Framework.
• Lead and develop the Country Finance team, fostering engagement and learning.
• Provide independent financial expertise, advice and challenge to business units.
• Oversee internal and external statutory audit processes and maintain relationships with external auditors.
• Coordinate governance for UK legal entities with Group Tax, Company Secretariat and Country Risk.
• Contribute to top‑management decision‑making and business strategy.

Required profile

• Senior finance professional with proven leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, Group accounting policies and local regulatory reporting.
• Experience managing statutory audit and tax compliance for a banking institution.
• Ability to work closely with regulators such as CBN, NDIC, FRCN, FIRS and LSIRS.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
