Financial Controller (Microfinance Bank)

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead all financial and accounting functions of the microfinance bank, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management. This full‑time, on‑site position is based in Benin City and works closely with senior management to drive efficiency and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise preparation of financial statements and manage general ledger activities, including month‑end and year‑end close.
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and loan portfolio performance while reviewing credit risk data.
• Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
• Establish and maintain internal controls, support audits and regulatory examinations.
• Collaborate with department heads to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

Required profile

• Strong financial accounting and reporting expertise, including GL management and statement preparation.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk management within microfinance or banking.
• Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial management tools.
• Ability to design, implement, and monitor effective internal control frameworks.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; ACA/ACCA certification preferred.
• Prior experience as a financial controller or senior finance professional in a Nigerian microfinance bank is an advantage.
