Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the finance function for the bank’s operations in Nigeria, ensuring that all financial reporting meets local and international accounting standards. This senior position reports to top management and plays a key role in shaping the bank’s financial control framework.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an effective system of internal financial controls in line with Group policies.
• Ensure timely, high‑quality statutory and regulatory filings, including reports to CBN, NDIC, FRCN, FIRS and LSIRS.
• Apply Group accounting policies and GAAP to all country‑level activities.
• Support balance‑sheet, liquidity and interest‑rate risk management through the ALCO process.
• Manage financial control risk using the Group Financial Control Policy and Risk Management Framework.
• Provide leadership, coaching and development for the Country Finance team.
• Offer independent financial expertise, advice and challenge to business units.
• Oversee internal and external audit processes and maintain relationships with external auditors.
• Coordinate governance for UK legal entities with Group Tax, Company Secretariat and Country Risk.
• Contribute to top‑management decision‑making as a member of the senior leadership team.

Required profile

• Senior finance professional with extensive experience in banking or financial services.
• Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams.
• Strong knowledge of local statutory reporting requirements in Nigeria.
• Experience managing relationships with regulators and auditors.
• Demonstrated capability to implement and monitor robust financial control frameworks.
