Finance Specialist – Mission Support

About the role

Action Against Hunger is seeking a Finance Specialist to support its mission in Abuja. The role will assist the Deputy Head of Finance in financial planning, budget management, donor compliance and capacity building for finance staff.

Key responsibilities

• Review and optimise the financial plan monthly, analysing gaps between actual costs and forecasts.
• Prepare budget proposals, donor reports and internal financial statements in line with donor and organisational requirements.
• Monitor grant financials, ensure compliance with donor guidelines and Nigeria statutory rules.
• Support risk assessment by monitoring financial controls across field offices and coordinating audit recommendations.
• Develop and deliver training on new budgeting policies and tools for finance staff and programme managers.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in finance or accountancy, preferably within INGO or donor‑funded programmes.
• Knowledge of donor rules, compliance requirements and Nigeria statutory regulations.
• Strong organisational, planning and interpersonal skills, with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience supervising staff and delivering capacity‑building sessions.
