Finance Policy Analyst – International Finance Transformation

About the role

The British Council is driving a finance transformation programme to create more efficient, customer‑focused controls. As a Finance Policy Analyst you will shape and implement finance policies that underpin the new Target Operating Model and strengthen internal controls across a complex international charitable organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, draft and implement finance policies, processes and guidance aligned with the Council’s strategy and risk appetite.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and outsourced Managed Service Providers to embed policies and monitor compliance.
• Support the development of an effective finance policy framework that meets external regulatory and reporting requirements.
• Provide advice on financial policy, controls and the application of accounting standards.
• Identify and implement improvements in financial processes and controls.
• Work with change teams to ensure proportionate financial controls are embedded in new initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and documenting finance policies, processes and guidance.
• Excellent drafting skills with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
• Strong analytical abilities and a track record of improving financial controls.
• Flexibility, independence and initiative to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
