Field Communications Manager

About the role

The Field Communications Manager (FCM) will be based in Abuja and work within MSF's operational communications department in Nigeria. The role supports the development and implementation of communications strategies that amplify MSF’s medical humanitarian work, bear witness to crises, and sustain public support for the organization’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Define, manage and adapt country‑wide communications strategies in collaboration with Heads of Mission, Communications Advisors and the Field Communications Coordinator.
• Monitor project areas for emerging situations that may require public communication and alert senior staff.
• Develop and maintain a Country Communications Framework outlining operational communication priorities.
• Create guidelines for crisis communications and ensure timely delivery of guidance and content during emergencies.
• Identify under‑reported crises and opportunities to highlight them through media outreach.
• Lead and supervise the press officer, social media officer and multimedia officer, providing backup support as needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience in operational or humanitarian communications, including crisis communication management.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Strong collaboration skills with mission leadership, humanitarian affairs managers and external partners.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local media landscape is an advantage.
