Environmental and Social Safeguards Officer

About the role

The Environmental and Social Safeguards Officer will support Aften Services in ensuring that all project activities comply with environmental and social regulations. This role involves monitoring, reporting, and promoting best practices to protect communities and ecosystems.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, policies, and project safeguard requirements.
• Monitor project activities, identify risks, and propose mitigation measures.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
• Conduct sensitisation and training sessions on safeguard policies for staff and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare regular compliance and incident reports.
• Assist in data collection, field monitoring, and reporting for M&E activities.
• Collaborate with project teams, community representatives, and regulatory bodies.
• Develop corrective action plans and track their implementation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
• Knowledge of environmental and social safeguard principles and compliance requirements.
• Strong organisational, communication, and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Resident of Ikire or willingness to relocate to Ikire.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
