Education Specialist

About the role

The Education Specialist will lead the design, delivery and quality assurance of teaching and learning interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes and retention for children in Lagos. Working closely with Learning Advisors and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, the role focuses on accelerated learning, inclusive pedagogy and teacher capacity building.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee accelerated learning programmes for foundational literacy and numeracy, both for out‑of‑school and in‑school children.
• Develop and adapt training modules, session plans and teacher manuals in line with state and national curriculum standards.
• Deliver initial teacher training, refresher sessions and on‑the‑job coaching, including the use of targeted instruction and grouping by learning level.
• Facilitate termly Communities of Practice for teachers to share best practices and address challenges.
• Conduct regular student assessments using EGRA, EGMA and upper‑primary tools, and support lesson planning and classroom assessments.
• Embed inclusive pedagogies addressing language, gender and disability needs, and collaborate with school management committees.
• Collect, analyse and use data to inform instructional improvements in partnership with the Evidence and Evaluation Unit.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development and teacher training.
• Strong commitment to child safeguarding and inclusive education.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government education boards and local school teams.
• Experience conducting literacy and numeracy assessments (e.g., EGRA, EGMA) is preferred.
