Design Manager – Kano-Maradi Railway Project

About the role

The Design Manager will lead and coordinate all multidisciplinary engineering and design activities for the Kano‑Maradi Railway Project, ensuring compliance with client specifications, Nigerian standards, international railway standards, lender requirements, schedule and budget constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the complete design programme for the railway corridor, including stations, bridges, culverts, maintenance facilities and freight yards.
• Develop and implement the overall design management strategy and maintain the design schedule.
• Coordinate civil, structural, geotechnical, architectural, railway systems, MEP, signalling, telecommunications and environmental designs.
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports, ensuring contractual compliance.
• Identify design risks, implement mitigation measures and oversee value‑engineering opportunities.
• Act as the primary interface with the client, design consultants, independent engineers, regulatory authorities and construction teams.
• Implement design quality‑control processes and ensure timely submission of design packages.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on large railway infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian and international railway standards and lender requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex design interfaces and resolve technical issues.
• Excellent stakeholder‑management skills with experience liaising with ministries, regulators and lenders.
