Database Administrator – Production & Disaster Recovery

About the role

The Database Administrator is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance and optimisation of the bank's database environment. You will ensure that production, disaster‑recovery, development and testing databases are reliable, performant and securely backed up.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and upgrade database systems.
• Create and maintain databases for production, DR, development and testing.
• Perform performance tuning, capacity planning and optimisation.
• Design and execute backup, recovery and replication strategies in collaboration with the IT Data Processing team.
• Monitor database health, manage incidents and execute failover/switchover procedures for disaster recovery.
• Support infrastructure teams with capacity forecasts and technical problem resolution.
• Contribute to revenue generation, cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• BSc in IT, Computer Science or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑qualification experience in database administration or a similar technical support role.
• Experience working in an infrastructure environment supporting production systems.
• Professional certifications such as OCP, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or AWS Cloud Practitioner are a plus.

Required skills

• Oracle Database administration (OCP certification preferred).
• SQL performance tuning and optimisation.
• Backup, recovery and replication technologies.
• Capacity planning and disaster‑recovery procedures.
• Familiarity with ITIL service management processes.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms – Microsoft Azure and AWS.
