Data Privacy & Protection Director

About the role

The Data Privacy & Protection Director will lead Moniepoint’s data privacy strategy, ensuring compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023 and other relevant regulations. This senior position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and oversees governance, risk mitigation, and incident response.

Key responsibilities

• Implement a data privacy governance framework, including Binding Corporate Rules, to meet NDPA 2023 requirements.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training programs for employees, vendors, and third‑party processors.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Nigeria Data Privacy Commission and other regulators.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and coordinate privacy audits.
• Collaborate with IT and information security teams to ensure systems comply with data protection laws and maintain breach response and data retention plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of hands‑on experience in data protection, compliance, or related fields, with deep knowledge of NDPA and other data privacy laws.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, IT, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven track record managing data privacy in complex organizations, including audits, DPIAs, and breach response.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CIPM, CIPP, CPT, CDPSE or CDPO are highly preferred.
