Data Privacy & Protection Director

About the role

The Data Privacy & Protection Director will lead Moniepoint’s privacy strategy, ensuring compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and related regulations. This executive role oversees policy development, governance frameworks, and incident response to protect personal data and uphold the company’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Implement a data privacy governance framework, including Binding Corporate Rules, to ensure compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
• Develop, set, and maintain policies and procedures that meet NDPA requirements and other relevant regulations.
• Raise awareness among employees, third‑party processors, vendors and data subjects about data protection rights and obligations.
• Act as the primary liaison with the Nigeria Data Privacy Commission and other regulators on privacy matters.
• Handle queries, complaints, claims and notifications from regulators, law‑enforcement agencies and data subjects, providing timely responses.
• Lead Data Protection Impact Assessments in collaboration with product and project managers to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with IT and information security teams to align systems, data processing activities and security plans with privacy requirements.

Required profile

• Executive‑level experience (minimum 10 years) in data privacy, protection or compliance, preferably within the banking or fintech sector.
• Deep knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and related regulatory frameworks.
• Proven track record of building and managing privacy governance frameworks and conducting DPIAs.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, able to interact with regulators, internal teams and external partners.
